Concentration: In-Progress
“Society
Demands Perfection, But We Demand Acceptance Of Our Own Imperfect Beauty."
The theme for my concentration is women in society, and the battle between
self-acceptance and the constant degradation of society towards women. For this
series, I used a variety of medias including photography, Photoshop, and
pencil. I chose this series theme because I have been raised my entire life to
believe in myself, to be confident no matter what, and not to let society bring
me down. I’m very passionate on the issue of the media, the workplace, and
society in general constantly teaching girls that they are not good enough, or
that men are in any way better than them. Through this series, I try to bring
to a head the idea that this simply isn’t true. No matter what we might be
told, we don’t need the reinforcement of magazines, celebrities, or what-have-you
to reinforce our own self-worth.This series explores the idea of a girl coming into her own
against the role society places her in. The main idea behind my inspiration is
inner beauty.

Weekly Challenge 8: Opposites
This WC was doing our Artistic Opposites. According to Bert, my opposites are photographing boys, animals, cars, and/or taking super photo-pure pictures. Well...this little montage thing has three of those! This is my little brother and my dog. The only edits to the pictures are adjustments to the color (black and white) and little adjustments to contrast/etc.

Silk Painting
On my silk painting, I give myself a four on the AP scoring rubric. I feel that my piece does show 5D, successful engagement with experimentation and/or risk-taking. I feel that my piece also shows the following qualities of a four on the rubric: 4B, some clear decision-making and intention; 4C, a demonstration of some imaginative ideas and purposeful manipulation of the elements and principles of design in the work’s composition; 4E, evocative and engaging qualities though some lack of confidence or lack of engaging qualities with confidence is demonstrated in the work.
